GIFT’s Mitzvah Day 2020

16/11/20GIFT’s Mitzvah Day 2020

This year’s Mitzvah Day theme was ‘filling lockdown with kindness’; and the incredible acts of chessed and giving were apparent across all of GIFT’s initiatives spanning communities from London to Manchester & Birmingham.

Primary and Scondary Schools, Shuls and charities were involved In a plethora of different GIFT activities. GIFT arranged over 50 street food collections & drop off points. Students, Young Professionals & families all worked together to give their time, energy & love to people who need it most.

GIFT, in conjunction with the Birmingham University Jewish Society arranged for students to bake delicious food for their Mitzvah Day activities.  They baked cookies and cakes and filled mugs with chocolates, coffee and hot chocolate sachets and distributed them to staff at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Israeli Charity Shelanu, in connection with GIFT, packed goody bags, made sandwiches and distributed them together with blankets to the homeless in Central London.

Young professionals got involved sorting through the incredible amounts of food donated to those struggling in our community.

Jonathan Moradoff posted on LinkedIn “My family were honoured to have taken part In collecting food parcels for families who are struggling to buy food in these very challenging times. I want to thank my family, friends and community for donating an incredible amount of food which will be distributed to those in the community through this exceptional charity GIFT, which I recommend you all to try to get involved with in any way you can.”

Roxanne Stross, GIFT Community Engagement Coordinator, who put together all the GIFT activities for the day, told us

“I am truly overwhelmed by all the effort our volunteers put in to making our Mitzvah Day such an incredible success; especially the street collectors, who spent the whole day decorating their drives; messaging all their contacts and collecting and sorting the mountains of food.

GIFT is supporting over 1000 people weekly with food support packages and these food donations will be extremely appreciated. You are all giving heroes and we are truly grateful.”

GIFT wishes to extend its sincere gratitude to almost 1000 volunteers who made the GIFT experience on Mitzvah Day such a success.
